Where do you start?
Let’s start with how you can work from home. In other words, what occupation do you choose?
Well, the truth is that there just aren’t that many work-at-home jobs… and by “jobs” I mean working for an employer. Why so few? There simply aren’t that many employers who can - or will - pay someone an hourly wage or salary to work from home.
Generally, employers already have a place of business, whether it’s an office, retail outlet, service outlet or other fixed location. They require their employees to be there to perform tasks or serve customers, clients or other employees.
Alternatively, the employer’s customer/client base is out “in the field.” Employees are required to go out and physically meet clients and customers or perform tasks - such as in a consulting job, home repair service, construction and landscaping company, and other businesses.
Either way, with most jobs it’s just not possible for employees to work from home full-time. The employer might work from home - many do - but his or her employees will be working at an office or retail outlet, “in the field,” or perhaps even working at the employer’s home office!
When an employer does use the services of home-based individuals, he or she usually hires them on a contract basis… which makes them self-employed entrepreneurs.
No work at home jobs?? Okay, now what?
Simple. The vast majority of people who work from home are self-employed, running their own businesses.
Starting and running a successful home business is not nearly as difficult or expensive as many of us believe - especially with the power of the Internet.
These days, it’s absolutely possible to launch an Internet business for a very low investment. All you need is a computer, and Internet connection and a good system (or systems) - and there are many available. Apply that system consistently and you will be making money very quickly!
Does it take time and effort? Sure - there are no free rides, and anyone who claims that you can make money by doing absolutely nothing is outright lying!
However, if you take the right steps and use the right tools you can make more money with less time and effort than you put into a full-time job! There are many more benefits too…
Benefits of running a home-based business
Becoming a home-based entrepreneur has so many advantages. For one thing, there’s no cap on your potential income. Yes, it’s up to you to make sure your business succeeds - but as long as you do, you can make a lot of money!
You can also set your schedule as you like, there’s no need to commute, you’re your own boss, you can spend more time with your family and friends… the list goes on!
Running your own successful business from home means freedom. Not just financial freedom, but the freedom to do, have, be, give and receive what you want, when you want, where you want, as much as you want.
That’s a lot of incentive!
It’s also getting easier and easier to work from home these days! There are so many legitimate work from home opportunities out there, with more coming available each day.
And yet, just a small fraction of the population actually does it!
Five (or more) days a week most of us continue to drag ourselves out of bed, slog through a jam-packed rat-race commute with thousands of other people, spend 8 (or more) hours at work, slog back through the commute, and arrive home exhausted with little time or energy left for anything else.
Can you imagine how great it will be if just a slightly higher percentage of the population decides to work from home?
The reduction in stress and resulting psychological and physical issues; less traffic congestion, pollution and crowding on public transportation; a more active and robust economy; more people making money doing things they love and enjoy; families spending more time together… and so many other potential benefits as well!
Employee vs. Entrepreneur
Oh, and did I mention that you can make a lot of money as an entrepreneur? Yes I did.
You see, as an employee your wage/salary is determined by your employer. People who are employed usually spend years - often decades - “climbing the ladder” with fractional wage increases every year or two. Employees also tend to pay more tax.
If you’re in a job that you love, and that job also allows you time to enjoy other aspects of your life, and it pays you enough to enjoy the lifestyle you want, then this can be acceptable. But for many people, this is definitely not the case!
In contrast, if you’re a self-employed entrepreneur running your own business, there is no limit to your potential income. You can grow your business as much, or as little, as you want. In addition, there are many tax advantages and deductions available to businesses and business owners.
In short, when you run your own business you can make more money and pay less tax!
Of course, you do need to accept responsibility, realize that you’re the boss - of yourself and anyone you have working for you - and apply discipline to your actions. A business doesn’t run itself, but as long as it’s a business you’re passionate about (and it should be), making sure it grows and thrives should be easy for you!
So why isn’t it easy for many of us? Why do many of us make a few attempts at working from home and then give up, or never even make one attempt?
